Tourist Information
Amsterdam is one of the top destinations for city tourism in Europe. There is a wide range of world-class museums (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam Historical Museaum, Maritime Museum, etc.).
Cultural life is vibrant, with summer festivals and events covering all facets of the performing arts (Carré, Muziektheater, Robeco Zomerconcerten, Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan het IJ, Paradiso, Melkweg, …).
Local life can be enjoyed in the many bars, cafés and restaurants that cater for all tastes and budgets. In addition to the old city center – with its famous red light district – and the museum quarter, you may wish to explore rejuvenating areas such as the Jordaan and the Pijp, multi-cultural quarters such as the Baarsjes, Bos en Lommer and the Indische Buurt, or the northern shores of the IJ (take a free cruise on one of the ferries behind the Central Station). Traditional villages and towns are nearby, including Marken, Volendam. Beach life can be enjoyed at IJmuiden and Zandvoort.
