Call for Applications

Beforehand, please note: Contrary to the other PDWs, the RCP Community Day will take place all day on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, i.e. 09:0013:00 and 14:0017:00!

Purpose

The Strategy-as-Practice (SAP) community is continuing to thrive at EGOS with three sub-themes focusing specifically on strategy and practice (sub-themes 27, 46 and 61), two additional sub-themes organized by SAP community members (sub-themes 12, 51), and five further sub-themes taking practice-based approaches (sub-themes 38, 41, 45, 65 and 13).

In order to allow us to connect conversations across these sub-themes, and other sub-themes into which our community has diversified, the EGOS Board has approved a SAP Community Day. The Community Day consists of interactive sessions and workshops that maximise engagement and dialogue amongst SAP and like-minded scholars within different EGOS sub-themes. To ensure participation from attendees of several sub-themes, the Community Day is held on the day prior to the main EGOS Colloquium.

Application

In order to attend the Community Day, you must submit an application via the EGOS website by March 31, 2015. Please clearly indicate whether you would like to attend Part I, Part II or the whole day (cf. the full program below). There will be limited places, so please act early to avoid disappointment! Please also tell us a little bit about yourself and why you would like to attend the Community Day.

We want SAP to continue as an organic community driven by its affiliates. So rather than simply having you join sessions (which you are of course also welcome to do!), we would love to hear about the types of activities that you would like to participate in. We thus sincerely welcome proposals for sessions at the 2015 RCP in Athens, Greece. If you have a wonderful idea for a session that you would like to discuss, please contact Paul Spee (). We particularly encourage sessions that advance theoretical, empirical and/or methodological frontiers.

Applications (max. 2 pages) plus possibly proposals (inc. details of the proposed activities, intended speakers and format, max. 2 pages) must be submitted in a single document via the EGOS website by March 31, 2015!?

PART I: Current Themes in Strategy-as-Practice

This session offers the opportunity to discuss recent developments in SAP, debate publishing SAP research and ask prominent SAP scholars for advice on existing projects. We draw on four recent and planned collections of strategy-as-practice themed work to structure the half day:

PART II: Current themes in Strategy-as-Practice

This session provides the opportunity to discuss linkages between SAP work and other communities, debate publishing cross-theme research, and ask scholars working across boundaries for advice.
To give the session some structure and capture very recent developments within and beyond the SAP community, the session is built around the second edition of the Cambridge Handbook of Strategy as Practice, edited by D. Golsorkhi, L. Rouleau, D. Seidl & E. Vaara. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press (forthcoming).
The session is envisioned to be highly interactive and hands on. Round Tables will be run by a balance of senior and junior scholars with expertise in one of the bridging topic areas.

Jane K. Lê?is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney. She studies organizational practices and processes in complex, dynamic, and pluralistic organizations. She has a passion for qualitative research and qualitative research methods. Jane received her PhD from the Aston Business School. She has published in 'Organization Science', the 'British Journal of Management', 'Strategic Organization', 'Organization', and the 'International Journal of Human Resource Management'.

Virpi Sorsa?PhD (management and organization), Lecturer at Hanken School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland, is interested in organizational communication and especially what strategy does in everyday work of individuals in organizations. Her work has been published in international peer reviewed journals (e.g. 'Organization', 'Discourse & Communication'). She is an active member of the internationally well-recognized Strategy as Practice community and one of the key researchers in the Strategy as Discourse community in Helsinki, Finland. She specializes in the management of public organizations, and she is convinced that by improving management both organizations and those employed by these organizations will flourish and succeed.

Andreas Paul Spee?is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland Business School, and serving as Senior Editor for Organization Studies. Informed by social practice theory, his research interest revolves around the social dynamics of strategists and the way heuristics such as strategy tools are adopted and how they influence a firms strategizing behavior. More recently, his work has expanded to investigate the practice of market making in the reinsurance industry, with a particular emphasis on the sociomateriality and calculative practices involved. His work appeared in the 'Academy of Management Journal', 'Organization Studies', 'Strategic Organization', and 'Oxford University Press'.

Violetta Splitter?is a Research Associate at the Chair of Organization and Management at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Her research interests include strategy-as-practice, the transferability of management ideas and concepts, the practical relevance of management education and research as well as a Bourdieusian perspective on organizational phenomena. She has published her work in the 'Journal of Applied Behavioural Science and Organization'.

Mike Zundel?is Professor at the University of Liverpool, U.K. He currently studies processual aspects of organizing and has a background in banking and marketing. He has also worked for Hewlett Packard and IBM. He is senior editor of 'Organization Studies' and consulting editor of the 'International Journal of Management Reviews'.
